Afterwordmail Offers a New Way for Businesses to Handle Wrong Emails and Outdated Attachments

 

A wrong account number on an invoice or an outdated figure on a quotation can turn a simple email into a costly business mistake.

A Nigerian software company, Aurum Digital Consulting Limited, has developed Afterwordmail to tackle that problem by allowing senders to correct messages after delivery while keeping a permanent record of the changes.

The Lagos-based product studio says Afterwordmail enables users to amend an email's subject and complete body text. Documents attached to the message can also be replaced, added or removed.

Instead of sending a second email with a correction or revised document, the sender can update the content available through the original link.

Recipients see the latest version

Afterwordmail's model is based on sender-controlled content rather than trying to recall an email already delivered.

A recipient receives an ordinary email containing a link. When the sender updates the message, the recipient sees the new version through that same link.

The arrangement does not depend on the recipient using the same email provider as the sender.

According to Aurum Digital Consulting, the service can therefore be used when communicating with customers on Gmail, contractors using personal email addresses or partners operating on another company's mail system.

No installation is required for either party.

Accountability remains after an edit

The company said it designed the system to ensure that an editable message does not become an unaccountable message.

Afterwordmail permits changes during a 48-hour period following delivery. At the end of that window, the message is permanently locked.

Its version history records previous versions, the time each change occurred and information about attachments. Recipients receive an automatic notification whenever the message is changed.

The sender cannot rewrite or erase the history, even if the current version is later removed.

Aurum Digital Consulting said this approach distinguishes Afterwordmail from simply giving users an edit function.

“The difference is not that we allow edits. It is that ours are recorded,” the company said.

The company added that every version is retained and timestamped, with recipients informed whenever changes are made.

 A Nigerian product for an international problem

Afterwordmail was developed in Lagos but is being marketed to businesses in Nigeria, Africa and international markets.

The service costs ₦3,500 monthly in Nigeria after a 30-day free trial.

“There is an assumption that software built in Lagos is built only for Lagos,” Aurum Digital Consulting said.

The company pointed to businesses in Abuja, Nairobi and London as examples of users that could face the same email correction challenge.

Afterwordmail is currently being used for documents and information including invoices, quotations, payment instructions and event communications.
